Strathcona Tweedsmuir School

Living in the south of Calgary has many lovely perks, one of which is Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS). The world-renowned independent day school is located on 160 acres just southwest of the Heritage Pointe Golf Course. With a history dating back to 1905, STS is the most experienced independent day school in Calgary; their mission is to prepare well balanced students for a life of purpose. STS inspires a high-standard of excellence Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School in scholarship, leadership and character in their 670 Grade 1-12 students. The school cares about the individual, and while the academic curriculum is enriched and the co-curricular options diverse, students have the needed resources for success.

Students have access to over 10 km of walking and hiking trails, aspen and spruce forests and a large pond on the School’s campus in the Foothills just south of Calgary. The campus contains extensive facilities for the four STS flagship programs: fine and performing arts, speech & debate, outdoor education and athletics.Faculty at STS hold a combined 1300 years of teaching experience. Each student is paired with an academic advisor who guides their progress. Children form strong bonds with staff and receive independent support from faculty,learning specialists and the new donor-funded Student Success Centre. Through daily class work, diverse co-curricular options and Heritage Pointe Schools international service and exchange opportunities, STS students become critical
thinkers with an international perspective. STS graduates are recruited by universities around the world.

Perhaps what makes STS most unique is their strong community of parents, staff, students and over 3000 alumni. Students are supported by a network of alumni graduating as far back as 1934. Each year, alumni from a diversity of careers— neuroseurgeon, eco-entrepreneur, Broadway playwright, Canadian Senator (to name a few)—return to STS to mentor students and reconnect, and continue to give back to their alma mater through volunteering and philanthropic efforts.

STS is an International Baccalaureate World School and the only independant school in the Calgary area certified to provide the IB Primary Years Programme for Elementary students. STS offers scholarships and bursaries annually to a select number of students.
